BTCC Car Livery
Martyn Bell : British Touring Car Championship driver (BTCC). As the new 2009 British Touring Car Championship season approached, Martyn Bell Racing needed a new car livery to go with their recently purchased Honda Integras.
The Brief
The brief was relatively simple - a new car livery was needed to promote the team and its sponsors.
The Solution
This season had a number of new elements - a new car, a new team mate and a new approach so a new look was essential. The car livery designed was striking and really stood out from the other teams. The key sponsor needed maximum exposure so their logo was contained in a black and yellow 'swoosh' that went down the side of the car - a distinctive graphic that really stood out as the car whizzed past and was very identifiable and, as a bonus, looked great on tv. The other sponsor logos were well placed - their positioning on the car was carefully considered, helping the overall look of the car to gel together.
The car also had another new element that no other British Touring car had. A sunroof. Not the usual sunroof, you understand, but as the principal sponsor logo had a sun in it, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss - this graphic was applied to the roof and was a great way to add extra impact to the car design and make it stand out from the crowd.
“Did you know we have a sunroof this year…”
“Have you? How?”
“We got a big sunshine sticker and stuck it on the roof…”
